The last few days of rain combined with a spring tide has meant the level of the river Usk is very high at present. Although unfishable at present in a couple of days time the prospect for salmon fishing on the Usk is looking good.
Before the heavy rains of the last few days we had some succesful fishing. Jimmy Devoy, the resident ghillie at Gliffaes, caught an 8lbs grils last weekend (5th September) on the Llandetty beat and two of his charges the day before caught the sea trout and trout pictured above. That is Tim Wilikinson with a fine sea trout above along side his son.
Regular Gliffaes guest and ace dry fly fisherman, Tony Bostock, fished the top beat in very wet and windy condtions on the 6th September for a couple of hours and caught seven brownies on a sparkle dun.
