Beat the Bank Holiday Crowds

The key to enjoying any bank holiday on this crowded island is to avoid the masses at all costs. Hoards of highly decorated people in vests and 3/4 length shorts is not who I wish to share a picnic spot with. If you feel like this then a Gliffaes style picnic on the river Usk maybe for you. Two families went down yesterday and had the place to themselves, except for the company of the ducks and the dippers.
Come down to the Flat Rocks
Gliffaes Hotel has about a mile of fishing along the river Usk below the hotel and right at the extreme down stream limit of our stretch is a wonderful place we call the ‘Flat Rocks’. Perfect for swimming or even riding your body board down the small rapids, plenty of fire wood deposited by the winter high water for your cooking fire and dappled shade to lie down in after lunch.
We can sort you out with a few sausages, some chilled drinks or bottle of wine, some salad and rolls and then guide you down to the flat rocks for a ‘Swallows and Amazons’ style afternoon of camp fires, swimming and bird watching. The best part of it is – you will have the place to yourselves almost guaranteed.
