This year, during Spring and Summer, Gliffaes Hotel is introducing a new Sunday Slow Grill to be held outside on the terrace once a month on the following days – Sunday 4th May, Sunday 15th June, Sunday 13th July and Sunday 24th August.
Gliffaes, with its nod to Italianate architecture, is trying to recreate Tuscany in Uskany by having a big outdoor Sunday lunch. We’ve previously done grilled food out on the terrace which proved very popular but we would like to turn this into more of a celebration of good food, good company and good wine for all the family.
As supporters of the Slow Food Movement, we have decided to support their Forgotten Foods campaign. Hopefully we will use a source of meat which is not widely available – at the moment we are talking to Lucy Levinge of Llwyn-on about using Badger Face Welsh Mountain Sheep.
On arrival there will be a selection of appetisers served on the terrace followed by the lamb which will be slow roasted. There will also be marinated venison skewers (sourced from The WelshVenison Centre) and a whole salmon en papillote cooked over hot charcoals. All served with fresh local salads sourced from Primrose Organic Farm near Hay with jacket potatoes and roasted new potatoes. We will not disappoint in the pudding department and we will also have a good selection of local Welsh cheese and with homemade pickles and bread.
We are keeping our fingers crossed for some fine weather so that we can set up 2 big tables of 20 places outside over looking the river. The idea is for everybody attending to mingle, chat and enjoy the food and company – all helped along by a good selection of local beer and cider.
For those that are interested there will be a guided tree walk around Gliffaes grounds in the morning. This will kick off at 11am with lunch starting at 1pm.
Booking is required, so please call reception on 01874 730 371 to reserve your places.
Catering for vegetarians will be provided if you notify us when you book. £27.50 for adults and £12.50 for children 10 and under.
If you fancy combining the Sunday Grill with a light evening meal and an overnight stay, we have come up with an offer – for more details click here.
Dear JamesI have never written to a hotel to praise them before! I cannot begin to tell you what an amazing time I had at your ‘Uskany in Tuscany’ or was it ‘Tuscany in Uskany’? It was so good I thought I was in Italy. Fabulous venue, great tree walk, amazing food and lovely staff. I cannot wait to visit again. Jane Berrow
