Gone Fishing

Gliffaes is one of the Last REAL fishing Hotels….you can see the river from your bedroom.

Situated 150 feet above the River Usk in the Brecon Beacons National Park the location is stunning and below the hotel, just a couple of minutes walk away, is the fishing.

Immediately below the hotel we have a mile of left bank fishing, divided into three beats . A short drive up river we have another three quarters of a mile of double bank fishing know as Llandetty. If that is not enough you can fish many miles of both the River Wye and Usk catchments with the Wye and Usk Passport.

While you are with us you will be most comfortable and well cared for, after all we have been looking after fishermen since 1948. If your partner does not want to sit on the river bank and watch the dippers and kingfishers then there are plenty of other distractions . Good locally souced food, an extensive wine list and a comfortable room you can be assured of.

Take a few minutes now to explore the rest of the site to re-assure yourself that Gliffaes is the place for your next fishing trip. Have a look at our rooms, find out more about dining here or learn more about the fishing using the menu on the left or read on….

Kev and I would like to send a big thank-you to you, Susie and all your lovely staff. We had a really nice stay and enjoyed the food , big thanks to the pastry chef, the bakewel tart last night was heavenly.

Start of the Fly Fishing Season

Fishing Opens on the Usk The fishing season started yesterday (3rd March – 30th September for trout and 17th October for salmon) and the Usk looked pretty good at Gliffaes, all be it, with pretty low flows, at about a foot above summer levels. Late Season Trout Fishing on the Usk

Still time to catch wild brownies on the Usk The trout season on the River Usk ends on the 30th September and with the pleasant warm weather we have been enjoying at Gliffaes over the last few days combined with a good height of water means that conditions are tip top for fly fishing. A [...]
