Crickhowell - Gateway to the Black Mountains

At the foot of Table Mountain and on the banks of the river Usk lies the small village of Crickhowell (population circa 3000) founded around a Norman Castle. Crickhowell is the nearest village to Gliffaes and although small it has a fair bit to offer.

Radiating out from Crickhowell are several circular walks and Crickhowell has become one of the National Park's Mountain Bike Trail Hubs with two or three good way marked routes leading from the main car park out into the Black Mountains.

You will find a good selection of shops, cafes, pubs and a brand new (2007) tourist information centre which hosts the Crickhowell website where you can find a comprehensive listing of what is what.  March 2008 saw the town get together to organise the first Crickhowell Walking Festival. 10 days of guided walks led by locals and experts alike. It is hoped this will become an annual event.

Worth a mention are the following establishments;

Webbs
