This might seem a long way (about 65 miles) but what a journey. No traffic and stunning country side.

As a surprise for Susie’s birthday, I took her on what turned out to be a thoroughly good day that took us through the heart of Wales and on to the coast.
From Gliffaes we took the A40 to just beyond Sennybridge to a very small beauty spa called ‘The Retreat’, where Susie enjoyed some treatments while I read the paper.
An hour or so later we were on our way to Aberaeron on the Ceredigion coast. This is a wonderful drive through mid Wales along the A482 via Lampeter. Aberaeron is a pretty Regency town with a small harbour surrounded by brightly coloured houses. Whilst there, we enjoyed a superb lunch at the Harbour Master Restaurant, indulging ourselves in the freshly caught oysters and fish.
To work off the feast, we rode our bikes two or three miles along a traffic-free path next to the Afon (river) Aeron to Llanerchaeron - you could walk the route just as easily. This is one of the few National Trust properties in Wales. It's a true 18th century Welsh Estate with a house designed and built by John Nash, a working organic farm and two restored walled gardens. Many of the features that made these estates self sufficient are still intact; service courtyard, dairy, laundry, brewery and the salting house are all there to be seen.
The Llanerchaeron Estate opens from the 28th Feb and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Although the drive takes about an hour and forty minutes (65 miles each way), the roads are very quiet and go through some of the best countryside Wales has to offer. We had a lovely time. We will happily book a session at The Retreat and lunch at The Harbour Master for you.
