I have listed below some of the things going on around here over the summer that I think will appeal to our guests. Combine some these events with your stay to make for a worth while trip. Especially if you are thinking of taking advantage of our great value four day offer.
Every year we run a day beginners fly-fishing course right here at Gliffaes. If you have every wanted to learn now's your chance. All the gen is here.
A chance to visit galleries and artists studios which will be open over the weekend and a nice way to explore the countryside surrounding Crickhowell. The artists have produced a detailed leaflet you can download with all the information.
The Hay Festival is definite must. There is just so much going on and something for everyone. Writers, artists, film makers, travellers, musicians, comedians, farmers and commentators all converge on Hay for 10 days of talks, films, concerts, walks and more. Expect to find many well known names in the programme. This is without doubt the best festival of its type in the world and it all happens just 20 miles from Gliffaes.
Another big event at The National Botanic Gardens jointly hosted with Aberglasney Garden featuring a Giant Plant Fair, Garden Expo and musical entertainment.
I'm sure you all know the score on country fairs. This one is s0 close to Gliffaes you can walk to and from it. No ques into the car park! The fair is being held at Glanusk Park, just a mile down the road.
I am not expecting you to run 22 miles across the country side of mid-Wales against a horse but this is a great spectator event as well. You can move about the country side to watch the participants as the race progresses. The race is centred on the town of Llanwrtyd Wells.
Another event in the neighbour's 'garden' - the beautiful Glanusk Park. A whole weekend of cycling activities for the whole family. Lycra not essential and you can ride to the park in about 5 minutes from here.
Another event at Glanusk Park, just down stream of the hotel. This is a first but should be fun and they are encouraging one and all to go along.
THE biggest show in Wales, definitely something for everyone. Numerous displays and events in the main ring each day. Four days of all sorts of events and a big retail village. The show is in Builth Wells, about 40 minutes away. I never tire at watching sheep sheering competitions or the lumber jack events.
Two days of eating and drinking in near by Abergavenny! Lots of demonstrations and talks from local chefs and food and drink writers from all over the country. This part of Wales is definitely becoming a very 'foodie' corner of Wales.
