Fishing Courses At Gliffaes

Learn All About Fly Fishing in South Wales

wedding-accent

We have been running fly-fishing courses at our hotel here in the Brecon Beacons for more than ten years and were awarded Fishing Hotel of 2017 by the Good Hotel Guide.

What courses do we offer?

If you are a beginner learning to fish at Gliffaes, the Usk will spoil you; this section of the Usk is one of the most beautiful stretches of river in the country and is home to a healthy stock of wild brown trout. No prior experience or personal equipment is required. The first day of the course will be spent understanding the basic theory of fly-fishing and getting to grips with casting a fly by practising on the lawns and later, down on the river. On the second day, Saturday, we will take you to a trout lake near Usk to put your casting into practice without having to concentrate on wading and thinking about river craft. This has proved to be a very successful idea and also means you will get a chance to feel what it is like to have a fish on the end of your line. Sunday will be spent back on the river at Gliffaes with one to one coaching from Frank.

On the other hand, if you are already have some experience but are looking to build upon your dry fly technique, brush up on the tactics that will help you catch fish in fast-running water and to learn to fish with a nymph, or fish ‘the duo’ (a combination of a nymph and a dry fly on the same leader), then the General Improvers River Fly Fishing Course is for you. Non-residents most welcome.
