33 Acres of lawns, shrubs, woodland and fields.

Spring, summer, autumn or winter there is always something worth seeing in our grounds. Snowdrops, camellias,  daffodils and bluebells in spring give way to rhododendrons and azaleas in May and June. Later in the summer the long grasses make for a wonderful contrast with the almost flawless lawns. Autumn is of course the time for a spectacular display of yellows, reds and browns as leaves turn before falling. The third week in October is usually the peak time for autumn colours.

Gliffaes is well know for its magnificent specimen trees some of which are over 300 years old.

Visiting other Gardens

A visit to the National Botanic Garden of Wales (about an hour away) can be combined with a trip to the wonderful gardens of Aberglasney.  Through out the spring and summer many local gardens are open as part of National Gardens Scheme.  (The lunches at Aberglasney are better!)

llanover garden school

Elizabeth Murray in near by Llanover (20 minutes from Gliffaes) runs the Llanover Garden School. Elizabeth lays on a series of talks, demonstrations, and practical days through out the autumn and spring. She gathers in experts from across the country to deliver the varied programme. A visit to Gliffaes for the night combined with a day at Llanover would make for a perfect diversion for a keen gardener. It is well worth having a look at her programme for the coming months.
