A little about the Brabners and the Suters

Gliffaes is very much a family business and Susie and I represent the 3rd generation of the Brabner family to take on the running of the hotel, which was started by Sam and Jane Brabner in 1948. Nick and Peta Brabner took over from them in 1972 and the baton was passed to us in 1999. The fourth generation are being broken in gently. Like most small businesses owners we are very much hands on from day to day. This is our home and we look forward to welcoming you here. Nick Brabner died suddenly in July 2011, leaving a huge hole at the heart of Gliffaes.

We employ about 40 people, a mix of part and full time employees. Some live in the next door village while others come from us far a field as Romania or New Zealand. In fact most of our housekeepers come from Nepal – the wives of Gurkha soldiers based at the nearby Army camp in Brecon. It’s the staff’s friendliness and helpfulness that is commented on so regularly by our guests.

I would like to thank you and your staff for your relaxed and efficient hospitality.

Gliffaes is proud of the niche it has made for itself in this wonderful part of Wales and we hope to carry on in the same vein for many years to come.
