How to find one of the best places to stay in Wales
Just 3 miles from Crickhowell and about 10 miles from Brecon, we’re right in the heart of the Brecon Beacons and the glorious Black Mountains.
So Easy To Get To
Gliffaes is tucked under the magnificent uplands of the Brecon Beacons National Park, a destination for walkers, mountain bikers, fishermen, canoeists and bird watchers.
Our luxury hotel in South Wales has a commanding position above the River Usk which runs through the pleasant market towns of Brecon and Abergavenny, and is just 3 miles west of the lively village of Crickhowell.
Despite the rural and tranquil location we enjoy, it is still easy to get to us as we are well served by road and rail.
Gliffaes is a 3-hour drive from West London or about 2.5 hours from Heathrow straight down the M4. If you are coming from the Midlands or the North we are about 45 minutes off the M5.
If you’re visiting other parts of the UK such as Bath, the Cotswolds or the Malvern Hills we are within 2 hours of them all and would make an interesting diversion from the well-worn tourist path.
For those on the way to or from Ireland via the ferry we are 2.5 hours from Fishguard.
We have a comprehensive set of driving instructions here.
Please note, if you want to use your Sat Nav, using our postcode (NP8 1RH) can deliver you on the wrong side of the river and several miles form the hotel. If you want to use Sat Nav set it to take you to the town of Crickhowell, then follow the driving instructions.
Gliffaes is an 8 mile taxi ride from Abergavenny station, which is just off the main London to Cardiff line. Trains leave from London Paddington almost on the hour every hour.
You should change at Newport, South Wales for the short trip to Abergavenny. The whole journey should take no more than 2.5 hours. Abergavenny is also on the line between Manchester Piccadilly and Cardiff.
For taxi transfers we recommend Town to Town.
The closest airport to Gliffaes is Cardiff (about an hour), next would be Bristol (about 1hr 20 minutes), then Birmingham, then Heathrow.
For all airport transfers we recommend “Airports Direct”.
