Over a Hundred Guided Walks in the National Park over 9 Days
25th February to 5th March 2017
Early Spring will see the tenth annual Crickhowell Walking Festival kick off on the 25th February which heralds 9 days of guided walks in the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons with walks to suit everyone. All abilities and a big choice of interests are catered for. If walking festivals are new to you let me introduce you to the concept. The organisers ask local people to volunteer to plan and then lead a particular walk that they know well and then try and impart some local knowledge to the walkers through out the walk. The walks are graded according to length and the amount of climbing involved. There is a fee to pay to come on each walk which covers administration and sometimes mini-bus transport. Many of the walks have interesting themes and as 2017 has been designated Year of Myths and Legends by Visit Wales (Wales’s tourism body) some of this years walks are embracing this theme.
If you take a look at the Walking Festival website you will be able to look at each walk in detail and book a place if you wish. Gliffaes Hotel makes a perfect base for the Walking Festival and our Spring Offer as well as being great value includes a pack lunch for you to put in your rucksack and take out on your walk. There is no better way to round off a day in the hills like a long hot bath and dinner prepared by someone else.
Susie and I will be leading two walks this year. The first on Tuesday 28th February taking in a 10 mile circuit in the hills above above Llangorse Lake and the second walk is on Thursday 2nd March which involves the climb of Tor-y-Foel and back along the Usk Valley Way in time for a cream tea back at the hotel.
This really is good chance to have a great day out and explore parts of the Welsh countryside you would not really find without the help of true local knowledge. If you are interested in coming along I suggest you book your walks soon as many have sold out and are limited to around 16 places per walk. Please do call me at the hotel if you would like some advice on suitable walks to pick and what equipment you will need.
