Summer Guided Tree Walks 2019

A Guided walk through the magnificent trees at Gliffaes followed by a Summer lunch.

Two dates: Saturday 18th May & Saturday 1st June. Walk begins at 11am with lunch at 1pm.

Gliffaes Hotel has, within its 33 acres of grounds, one of the best small arboretums in Wales with an enviable collection of specimen trees from around the globe planted by far sighted Victorian collectors. It also has numbers of much older trees shedding light on how the woodlands were used and managed in past times.

Over the last 70 years the owners of Gliffaes Hotel have been improving the gardens and continually adding to the collection of trees. Mid May early June is naturally one of the best times of the year to see many of these trees in their splendour, not forgetting our Rhododendrons and Azaleas. Come and join us on an informative stroll through the gardens and woods, enjoy the beautiful colours and learn about the trees and woodlands in general. This summer we are hosting two guided walks followed by a two course lunch (including a glass of wine and coffee).

Studies in Japan have shown that a walk in the woods or ‘forest bathing’ can reduce blood pressure, lower cortisol levels and improve concentration. So much so that Japanese doctors now advocate shinrin yoku or forest bathing to relieve over- stressed office workers. The evidence might be anecdotal but we all enjoy a walk in the fresh air followed by a good lunch, so come and join us.

The Gliffaes tree walk is approximately a mile in length and is mostly flat, easy walking and is certainly not strenuous. Dogs on leads are welcome. A decent pair of shoes or trainers will be fine if it is dry.

Arrive at 10.30am for a coffee on the terrace before setting off on the walk at 11am from the Gliffaes courtyard, returning in time for a two course Summer Lunch that includes a glass of wine and coffee. Price per head £36. Children under 16 £20.

If you would like to come along please call us  to reserve a place, £10 per person deposit required on booking.
