Not another Airport Early Morning
You are thinking of a few days away… don’t get me started on no-frills flying. Parking, queuing, frisking – not to mention the early start. Can’t take everything you want with you. Towns so full of tourists it is impossible to move without treading on someone wielding a selfie stick. Then there is the hotel; bored and disinterested staff with no feeling of love for the place and no sign of an owner. Hot and stuffy rooms, windows that don’t open and mopeds running about the streets at all hours. No space to relax and just read your book. Restaurant menus that are made up of only faded photos. We have all been there; older and wiser now you know what you like and how to avoid this chaos.
A four-day break in the Brecon Beacons…you had not thought of that had you? But think about it a little more.
The Holiday free from Hassles
A hassle-free holiday without catching a plane, taking your own car to a quiet and civilised hotel. You would like to give the crowds a wide berth and find some magical, unspoiled countryside. You certainly don’t want a formulaic chain hotel and you would like that personal touch and friendly service. You would like a smartly decorated room, a very comfortable bed with crisp linen and a beautiful view from the window (which you can open). People to take care of you, chefs to cook you great food and someone to help you chose a good bottle of wine. I don’t think that is too much to ask. Our four-day summer break may be the answer.
“Graham has been hankering after a “proper” country house hotel for a while and, at last, you fitted the brief.” – Penny Stirling
Take the Road less Travelled
Set off in your own car with as much or little luggage as you want. Skip the check-in queues and the strip search. Come straight to Wales on some of the quietest roads in Britain. Walk into the hotel and feel your troubles fall away as you sit on the sunny terrace with a glass of wine waiting for your lunch and thinking about, well, not a lot. There is so much natural beauty here it will take your breath away. The view of the River Usk running by, the hills rising up beyond, the gardens full of shrubs and the most amazing collection of trees to explore in the 33 acres. No rush; you have got four days to explore the Brecon Beacons and the Gliffaes countryside.
