Fly fishing for wild brown trout in high summer can be hard work, the water is most likely to be low and if the day is bright and hot the fish tend to hole up in the deeper and faster flowing water (more oxygen). The only real way to winkle them out during the day is to use a heavy nymph in the fast water. For the purist wishing to fish the dry fly the late evening is when the fish will start to stir and come up to feed on the surface.
If you fancy a day or two of challenging fishing then come and take advantage of our short fishing break. The Gliffaes Water in Summer If the river is low you will need to keep moving and it will not take as long to cover the water which is why we are offering just a two day fishing break. We have two stretches of water on the Usk broken into 5 beats. Three beats directly below the hotel and a further two upstream, plenty to keep you occupied for two days. More information here. If you fancy coming to fish the Usk and have a few days away, take advantage of this money-saving offer. This offer is valid from 27th July 2014 until 1st September 2014. Valid over weekends as well.
