With less than 100 days to the kick off of the first World Cup pool match the scramble for accommodation near the match venues is hotting up. The fabulous Millennium Stadium in Cardiff is host to six pool matches and a back to back knockout weekend of quarter final matches on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October. Of course, Cardiff’s hotels have jumped on the bandwagon and prices for the above mentioned quarter final weekend have lept through the roof. A quick search on Booking.com has revealed rooms at £1000 a night in a normal 3 star hotel and even the pool match nights are commanding nearly £450 a night.
Make Gliffaes Hotel your base for the World Cup in Cardiff
Beat the prices and beat the crowds and stay with us in the tranquil Brecon Beacons! You can be in Cardiff within 1 hour either by train from Abergavenny or by driving. I have never had difficulties in driving and parking for Six Nations matches in Cardiff. Abergavenny train station is 20 minutes from Gliffaes Hotel and we can easily arrange for a taxi to the station. If you are travelling as a group it could well be worth getting us to arrange a mini bus to take you all the way into Cardiff and bring you home afterwards.

We are still unsure as to when we can re-open. I think it will be around the 24th May.
Gliffaes will not be open for outdoor dining only – I am afraid the numbers don’t stack up for us.
Mark Drakeford, The Welsh First Minister has given no definitive date for the opening of indoor hospitality in Wales.
This matter is further confused by the local elections on the 6th May. If Labour is returned to power he tells us that he will be minded to consider the opening of indoor hospitality on the 17th May and I guess he will give us about a week’s notice taking us to the 24th May.
Online booking is available and reception will be staffed from 9am to midday from Monday to Saturday, so please do call us.
Thank you for all your support and we hope to see you in May and beyond.
James & Susie Suter and all the team at Gliffaes.
