The Brecon Beacons is home to an abundance of places to shop, from shopping centres with well-known big brands to picturesque high streets filled with local art, delicious produce, and handmade gifts.
Each of the region’s towns has something to offer. Brecon and Crickhowell have an impressive array of unique independent shops and boutiques, while Abergavenny is fantastic for foodies with its annual food festival and markets selling local produce.
Often described as the ‘town of books’, quirky Hay-on-Wye is famed for its secondhand and antiquarian bookshops. It also offers a wide range of independent retailers selling vintage fashion, jewellery and vinyl.
Llandeilo, a charming town sprinkled with Georgian and Victorian buildings is excellent for vintage finds and antiques, including clocks, oak furniture and silverware.
The region’s villages and rural areas are home to general stores and farm shops filled with local seasonal produce and Welsh specialities. Our national park visitor centres and tourist information office are great places to pick up local guides, maps and souvenirs.
Gliffaes Country House Hotel is nestled in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park. We’ve created a useful guide of local attractions and activities here, containing information on walks, things to do, local shopping and places to visit, which you can use to help map out your visit to the Brecon Beacons.
If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a fresh, locally-sourced lunch, dinner or afternoon tea, or somewhere comfortable to stay the night, our friendly country house hotel is the perfect base for your Brecon Beacons break.Book now
We are still unsure as to when we can re-open. I think it will be around the 24th May.
Gliffaes will not be open for outdoor dining only – I am afraid the numbers don’t stack up for us.
Mark Drakeford, The Welsh First Minister has given no definitive date for the opening of indoor hospitality in Wales.
This matter is further confused by the local elections on the 6th May. If Labour is returned to power he tells us that he will be minded to consider the opening of indoor hospitality on the 17th May and I guess he will give us about a week’s notice taking us to the 24th May.
Online booking is available and reception will be staffed from 9am to midday from Monday to Saturday, so please do call us.
Thank you for all your support and we hope to see you in May and beyond.
James & Susie Suter and all the team at Gliffaes.
