The Tour of Britain bike race gains in popularity as more and more British pro cyclists achieve success in the Grand Tours on the Continent. The seven day tour has to have some mountains in and so Wales always has a stage or two acting as the ‘Alps of Britain’. Stage 3 on the 9th September is a 112 mile route starting from Newtown in mid-Wales and finishing on the famous 4 mile punishing ‘Tumble’ climb just outside Abergavenny. The route will pass through our neighbourhood villages of Cwmdu, Tretower and Crickhowell at around 1.30pm making for very easy spectating from Gliffaes. You would only have to travel about 2 miles to catch the riders fly past in Tretower or 3 miles to see them zip through Crickhowell.
Gliffaes has two electrically assisted bikes you may borrow to access the route or we have a tandem that is up for grabs.
With route almost passing the bottom of our drive we can help you plan a ride to take in some of the route and point out some of the best places to stop and watch the pros fly by.
Stay the night(s) of the 8th, 9th or 10th of September ( one two or three nights) and we will give you free use of the Hotel’s bikes (first come first served) for up to half a day and free pack lunch to take out on the road with you or free afternoon tea when you return from your ride, you choose. Stay in a standard double or twin for £149 per room per night for B&B. We also have secure bike storage should you choose to bring your own stead.
Call now on 01874 730 371 and ask for the ‘Tour of Britain Offer’. Valid only with bookings made directly with us and offer is valid on any available room.

We are still unsure as to when we can re-open. I think it will be around the 24th May.
Gliffaes will not be open for outdoor dining only – I am afraid the numbers don’t stack up for us.
Mark Drakeford, The Welsh First Minister has given no definitive date for the opening of indoor hospitality in Wales.
This matter is further confused by the local elections on the 6th May. If Labour is returned to power he tells us that he will be minded to consider the opening of indoor hospitality on the 17th May and I guess he will give us about a week’s notice taking us to the 24th May.
Online booking is available and reception will be staffed from 9am to midday from Monday to Saturday, so please do call us.
Thank you for all your support and we hope to see you in May and beyond.
James & Susie Suter and all the team at Gliffaes.
