I love hosting our wine dinners in gloomy February as it gives us all something to look forward to and for February 2014 we really have something very special lined up.
With very generous support from our house champagne supplier, Joseph Perrier* we are laying on a 4 course (5 courses if you include the canapés before dinner) banquet with every course accompanied by a different champagne from Joseph Perrier. Once I have finalised the menu I will post up on this page.
We are also very lucky to have Martin Gamman (Master of Wine and brand ambassador for Joseph Perrier) host the evening for us. Martin will talk us through the different champagnes and how, with a little careful thought, champagnes can be used to beautifully accompany every course of a dinner.
Based on previous wine dinners I can guarantee a very jolly evening in good company.
Come and stay for the weekend with us here in South Wales or just the Saturday night and brighten up the dull month of February with a lovely evening of good food, great wine and friendly company. Why not try and convince some friends to come with you or make it a lovely date night? We will sit everyone on round tables of 6-8 settings and we hope for around 48 dinners.
The cost per head is £85 which includes champagne with every course. Any champagne you taste can be ordered on the night.

* More about Joseph Perrier
The family-owned Grande Marque House of Joseph Perrier was founded in 1825. It is one of the smallest houses, concentrating on quality not quantity in their production.
The family vineyards are located in the Vallee de la Marne villages of Cumieres, Damery, Hautvillers, and Verneuil. These south facing vineyards produce rich rounded wines that form the back-bone of the Joseph Perrier style.
The House of Joseph Perrier is located in the historic capital of the Champagne region, Chalons-en-Champagne.
Here the cellars are over two miles long. First carved out of the chalk by the Romans, then by the family, they provide the dark and constant temperature necessary for the production and ageing of top champagnes. Champagne Joseph Perrier is careful to age its’ wines for longer than most to maintain the round and enjoyable house style.
We are still unsure as to when we can re-open. I think it will be around the 24th May.
Gliffaes will not be open for outdoor dining only – I am afraid the numbers don’t stack up for us.
Mark Drakeford, The Welsh First Minister has given no definitive date for the opening of indoor hospitality in Wales.
This matter is further confused by the local elections on the 6th May. If Labour is returned to power he tells us that he will be minded to consider the opening of indoor hospitality on the 17th May and I guess he will give us about a week’s notice taking us to the 24th May.
Online booking is available and reception will be staffed from 9am to midday from Monday to Saturday, so please do call us.
Thank you for all your support and we hope to see you in May and beyond.
James & Susie Suter and all the team at Gliffaes.
