Yesterday we got the good news that we had won a ‘Gold Award’ from Visit Wales for 2011. Visit Wales is the Wales Tourist Board and they are the people who carry out star grading of properties, amongest other things, the biggest of which is marketing Wales as a destination. Not only have we earnt a fourth star this year but we have now received this gold award for 2011 and we are all very chuffed.
Only 16 hotels in Wales received the award. The main aim of the Gold Award is to reward outstanding quality, exceptional comfort and hospitality in the hotel sector in Wales. The award also recognises businesses that have been successful in a mystery shopper exercise to test their customer interaction skills and those that have been able to demonstrate a high commitment and on-going development to improve their business for guests with disabilities.
Of course Susie and I would never have achieved this award without the 100% conmittment we get from our loyal and hard working team who now number 35. I must not forget to thank our guests (nearly all of them) for supporting and encouraging all our efforts to improve what we have at Gliffaes.
We are still unsure as to when we can re-open. I think it will be around the 24th May.
Gliffaes will not be open for outdoor dining only – I am afraid the numbers don’t stack up for us.
Mark Drakeford, The Welsh First Minister has given no definitive date for the opening of indoor hospitality in Wales.
This matter is further confused by the local elections on the 6th May. If Labour is returned to power he tells us that he will be minded to consider the opening of indoor hospitality on the 17th May and I guess he will give us about a week’s notice taking us to the 24th May.
Online booking is available and reception will be staffed from 9am to midday from Monday to Saturday, so please do call us.
Thank you for all your support and we hope to see you in May and beyond.
James & Susie Suter and all the team at Gliffaes.
