Sunday June 19th is Father’s day this year and there is never quite so much fuss made over Father’s day as Mother’s day at Gliffaes so this year I thought I would suggest a few ideas that might put a smile on Dad’s face.
I can’t offer your father a sea weed wrap treatment in our spa because we don’t have one but if he is a keen fly-fisherman you could buy him a day’s fly fishing at Gliffaes with a bar lunch for £45. Vouchers are valid for a 12 months. You could always join him for lunch. Click here to buy.
On Father’s Day, Sunday June 19th, we will be cooking up a storm over hot charcoal and serving a delicious lunch out on the terrace overlooking the the stunning Usk Valley. Treat your Dad to lunch and don’t force him through all the hassle of dragging the BBQ from the back of the shed, the last minute dash to the garage for charcoal and the forlorn sight of a couple of burnt bangers at the end of it. Slow cooked pork, lamb kebabs, fish and plenty of salads will be on offer here. Places are limited, more information here.
If your father is keen on cycling here’s a suggestion that could well appeal. Gliffaes Hotel is smack in between the Black Mountain’s and the Brecon Beacons and the surrounding country side offers some of the country’s best cycling. Suggest to your Dad that he could drive to the hotel and set off for a ride and then time his return to meet the rest of the family back at the hotel in time for lunch or for afternoon tea. We will find him a place to change so he won’t embarrass you in his tight black shorts.
If you want to keep it flat there are gentle rides along the canal, following the back lanes to Brecon or out to the Talybont Reservoir however as you would expect we have plenty of very challenging climbs around here to tackle. If it’s mountain biking he is keen on then I could set him off on our local testing route, The Ninja Test. Get in touch with me and I will be happy to advise on routes. You could always hire one of our electrically assisted bikes and keep up with him without breaking into a sweat.
Within our 33 acres of grounds we have an amazing collection of mature trees from around the world that tell a unique story of the different occupants of Gliffaes and their relationship with the landscape. We have labeled most of the key specimens and produced a map to guide you around our Arboretum. If you came along on Father’s day we will be leading a guided walk around the trees at 3.15pm which will bring you back in time for afternoon tea. (Please call us if you would like to come as we take bookings for tea.)
