Gliffaes is one of the finest hotels in South Wales, established in part thanks to our unrivalled reputation as a true country house and fishing hotel. You’ll discover Gliffaes off the beaten track, tucked away in the Brecon Beacons National Park and surrounded by the rolling hills of the Black Mountains.
We all know that this has been a difficult year for everyone but we have tried to make our winter offer as simple as possible. Two or more nights with us, dinner and breakfast included for £199 per couple per night, in the best room available, book early and get the best rooms overlooking the river and save well over a £120 a night. We only have 4 rooms overlooking the river and they will go fast at these rates.
Valid from December 1st – 21st 2020 then from January 11th – 31st 2021. Minimum stay two nights. Sunday to Thursday inclusive.
In these uncertain times, we have waived our cancellation fees. No deposits to pay either. Call on 01874 730 371 or Click below. All rooms just £199 a night even the best rooms which would normally be over £340 a night.
Even in mid-winter, there are things for you to see and do and I have some suggestions on how to fill the short days of winter if you read on…
Talybont Waterfalls – The waterfalls are always more spectacular in winter as there is more water going over them. A circular walk taking in several waterfalls. Moderate going.
Brecon Canal – Nice and flat. Walk to Talybont-on-Usk along the canal, have lunch in the pub and take a taxi home.
Climb Pen Tir – A short drive from Gliffaes to the village of Cwmdu then a steep climb up on to the hill followed by a lovely ridge walk and back down to Cwmdu for a pint in the Farmers Arms. Great views over the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons.
We have maps and guide books as well as lots of local knowledge to set you off on these and other walks. We can supply a picnic lunch and a flask of tea to take with you. On your return, we can put you next to the fire with a cup of tea and a fresh scone while we hang up your coats in the drying room.
We are lucky to have several interesting and well-curated local art galleries in which I am sure you will be able to find some novel Christmas presents or an original piece for your home.
The book town of Hay-on-Wye, about 30 minutes away from Gliffaes, has a grand selection of second-hand bookshops, small print shops and my favourite shop in Hay is the eclectic, Great English Outdoors.
Fancy a drive? Head up the beautiful Wye Valley and on to the dramatic Elan Valley. It’s here that the Victorian engineers built several huge dams to supply water to the growing industrial towns in the midlands. Check-in at the visitor centre before heading off to explore. In nearby Rhyder you can watch the majestic red kites being fed.
