Susie and I have been buying Welsh art for the hotel for over 10 years now and we try to support our local artists as much as we can. It is not a quick and cheap thing to do – building up an art collection, but we feel it makes such a difference to see original art on the walls of the hotel. It is a world away from mass produced prints of The Grand Canal, and how relevant is that to a country house in Wales anyway? So I am delighted to help promote the Crickhowell Art Trail over the coming bank holiday weekend.
Under the co-ordination of the Crickhowell Resource and Information Centre (CRiC) over 50 artists will be showcasing their work in 31 venues in Crickhowell and the surrounding country side. Explore the landscape and hopefully discover some wonderful art along the way. Entry to all the venues is free of charge. A comprehensive guide and map is available form the hotel and from the Information Centre in Crickhowell. Information on all of the artists taking part.
The art on show over the weekend will not just be paintings and drawings. There will be ceramics, sculpture, engraving, jewellery, glass works, carving, furniture, wood turning and textiles. Should be something for all tastes.
