Planning on staying at our Hotel in Brecon this summer?

In this blog, we bring you the most wonderful things to do in The Brecon Beacons during your stay with us at Gliffaes. As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, the Brecon events calendar is certainly starting to fill up.

The summer loving team at our Brecon Hotel has pulled together this list of their top 7 things to do in Brecon this season to help you make the most of your trip.

1. Trans Wales Horse Riding Trails

Escape the hustle and bustle of the daily grind and join the Trans Wales team exploring the staggeringly beautiful Brecon Beacons and further afield on horseback this summer. Enjoy hair raising canters along mountain ridges, trots down leafy lanes and truly enjoy the company of one of their friendly horses. If you are looking for something a bit more adventurous, why not treat yourself to a longer break and experience one of their epic trail rides around Wales? A fun and unforgettable way to get some fresh air this summer.

2. Afternoon Tea at Gliffaes

This summer join us at Gliffaes for the most delightful afternoon tea Brecon has to offer. Make the most of the warmer weather and take afternoon tea on the terrace followed by a stroll around the stunning trees on the Gliffaes grounds. This delectable afternoon tea is served as a buffet, so you can go back for as many servings of tea, scones, finger sandwiches and cakes as you like – we won’t judge!

3. Fishing at Gliffaes

Why not try your hand at something different this summer and head to Gliffaes Country House Hotel for a fishing weekend? With views of the River Usk from your bedroom and access to some of the best fishing in Wales, you will have a truly unforgettable experience. For those looking to brush up on their skills under the guidance of the best local guides and ghillies in Wales, join other fishing enthusiasts for one of our fishing courses.

4. Talgarth Festival of the Black Mountains

There has been an annual gathering of sorts in the town of Talgarth since the Bishop of St David’s granted the town market and Fair Rights in 1292. Today this gathering has grown into a festival and the current event is celebrating the 22nd anniversary of its latest reincarnation this year. The small market town of Talgarth in Mid Wales will be hosting this ‘free’ festival with a celebration of food, farming, music and the countryside. It remains one of the few Festivals boasting free entry, free parking and most importantly, free entertainment. What’s not to love? This event is running over Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th August 2017.

5. Sunday Summer Terrace Grill at Gliffaes

For an unforgettable food-filled feast, join us at our restaurant in Brecon this summer for our Sunday Slow Grill and enjoy delicious slow cooked Breconshire pork with caramelised apples or a mouth-watering shoulder of Welsh lamb, both with all the trimmings, for just £35 for adults and £14.50 for children 10 and under. You could make a night of it too as we have a special offer combining the Sunday Grill and an overnight stay. The dates for 2017 are Sunday 18th June (Father’s Day), Sunday 23rd July and Sunday 13th August. This event was hugely popular last year so book now to avoid disappointment.

6. Abergavenny Food Festival

If you are a chef, food journalist, farmer, food producer or just a self proclaimed foodie, Abergavenny Food Festival is the event for you! This delicacy filled event has grown to become the largest, longest running food festival in Wales. Expect to see product tastings, kids’ activities, masterclasses, hands-on cookery lessons and appearances from upcoming and celebrity chefs. There will even be topical debates on the latest food issues and the future of our food. This event will be running on Saturday 16th September and Sunday 17th September 2017 and will be a fantastic opportunity for people from all walks of life to explore and learn about food.

7. Brecon County Show

Looking for an action packed, hands-on event with food, farming and countryside at its core? The Brecon County Show is the perfect day out for you and your family. This Brecon Show will be on Saturday 5th August 2017 and will host over 200 trade stands exhibiting the best in British farm produce, gardening goods, the latest tractors & farm machinery, clothing and jewellery and so much more.
