We have run the first two of of this year’s three beginners fly fishing courses under the expert guidance of APGAI (Advanced Professional Game Anglers Instructor) Frank Williams.
Each course had only six students to ensure a that everyone got a good deal of individual attention from Frank. The courses are three days in length and run on a pretty flexible timetable to suit the weather and the students with plenty of breaks for coffee and lunch back at the hotel. Frank supplied every participant with a rod, reel and the rest of the tackle to get started – so there is no need to spend on equipment before you have learnt what you really need.
A lot of attention was spent on getting started with casting on the first day, on the lawn to begin with before moving down to the river. On day two Frank began the day with a some fieldcraft and by showing the students all the nymphs and flies that live in and on the river. They were amazed to find so much life right beneath their feet underneath the stones.
It was then on to the serious business of fishing as without putting your fly on the water you are never going to catch a fish.
We will be running more courses in 2012 and I will publish the dates very soon. Register your interest by filling in the form below.
