Aberhyddnant Organic Farm – Perfect For The Children At Half Term

From pony experiences, lambing, sheep trekking and shearing to craft days and learning all about farming, this organic farm is the perfect spot to visit this spring. If you wish to you can get hands-on with the animals and ask as many questions as you want to about the rearing of farm animals, and what it takes to be an organic farmer. Whether you want to feed baby lambs or take a walk with the sheep, the farm has a whole host of activities available for all the family.

Royal Welsh Spring Festival – A Celebration Of Smallholding And Rural Life

On the 19th and 20th May head to the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells and you can participate in the Spring Festival. Boasting an action-packed programme of entertainment, you can get involved in educational activities, attend talks, participate in workshops and take part in displays and performances. With over 1,300 livestock and horses on display, the Royal Welsh Spring Festival will see hundreds of trade stands on site and the only Premier Open Dog Show held in Wales. Offering children’s activities, vintage machinery, gardening, a food and drink quarter, auctions, country leisure and much, much more, you won’t want to miss this festival.

Crickhowell Walking Festival – 9 Days Of Guided Walks For Everyone

Starting on the 24th February and running to the 4th March this will be the 10th anniversary of this popular walking festival in which locals (including yours truly) lead guided walks all around the Black Mountains and the surrounding countryside. There are walks to suit all abilities from walks around the village of Crickhowell to day long hikes over hill and dale. Many of the walks have a theme on which the leader has some knowledge; could be local history, geology, fauna and flora etc. Booking is essential so please have a look at the festival website to view the programme and book tickets.

Climb Pen Cerrig-Calch

Located right on the doorstep of our Brecon hotel, the three peaks of Pen Allt-mawr, Pen Cerrig-calch and Table Mountain combine to make a walk that is a challenge many walkers will revel in. These three peaks form a major part of the Black Mountains and are a must-do for those visiting the area.
