If you already have some experience but are looking to build upon your dry and wet fly techniques, join us on our beautiful stretch of the river Usk for our General Improvers River Fly Fishing Course.
Here are 5 reasons you might consider joining our Improvers course this year…
1. Improve your casting skills
Casting is the most fundamental skill in fly fishing and there is always room for improvement whether it is learning new techniques, learning how to cast against a stiff breeze, cast a longer line with ease or even the perfect presentation of a short line.
2. Develop a greater understanding of river craft
Brush up on the tactics that will help you catch fish in fast-running water. Learn more about your quarry and where they like to feed within the river and learn where and why fish like different parts of the river in different conditions and at different times of the day. Learn to take the time to sit and watch what the fish are feeding on rather than just wading into the river and starting to fish almost ‘blind’. If you have only ever fished in a stocked lake then this will be a whole new sphere of learning for you.
3. Learn new fly fishing techniques and refine the ones you already have
Learn to fish with a nymph, or fish ‘the duo’ (a combination of a nymph and a dry fly on the same leader). Even if you have practised this technique we bet you could use a few pointers to be more effective with it!
4. Learn to catch fish in difficult conditions
Most people think that if it is too hot and bright or the water is too low you will struggle to catch fish but the trout have not upped and left the river you just need to know where to look and what techniques to use.
5. Enjoy a social weekend on the river with like-minded people
We have been looking after fishermen and fisherwomen on fishing holidays since 1948, and whilst you are with us you will have access to some of the best fishing in Wales, all whilst in the company of like-minded people. We aim not just to help you improve your fly fishing skills but to create some outstanding memories.
We hope that’s got you excited to take on the Usk with us this season, The next Improvers Course is running on 8th, 9th and 10th June 2018 and 16th, 17th and 18th July 2018. More information on fishing courses here.
